Ruth Block’s Sculpture
Whether from observational reality, imagination, or, as in most cases, a combination thereof, creating three-dimensional form has always had a strong interest, regardless of materials involved. Life is 3-D after all.
Visionary/Lady Bust was the first piece cast into bronze while apprenticing at a Benicia, CA foundry in 1977. This and other pieces are subsequently cast at Mussi Artworks Foundry, LLC, Berkeley, CA, including Bird-Woman’s first castings in late 2017.
Each bronze requires a mold in order to create a single wax image for casting into bronze (lost wax technique). After each mold reaches its limited signed and numbered edition of 15, the image’s mold is destroyed, and further castings are not available of that piece.
While other sculpture images in various materials have emerged over the years, they are each “one-of-a-kind”. Shown here are only images of those with molds still available for casting - until the full 15-edition of each is completed.
